Finger-painted Garden was a surprising reaction to the explosion of leaves that changed my subject almost overnight. Without the framework of branches to map out my subject, I began to respond directly to the directions of growth, and to the fleeting qualities of light on one particular day. The result is uncertain and unresolved but important in the way it transforms the foliage into painted signs.
