Flints, Chalk and Oil
paint is a new departure, retaining the drawing and
alterations as
integral to the subject - for the first time since Monochrome
Window but this time there's more formality in the
presentation
of the various modes of work: stained canvas; dry chalk line; erased
chalk;
visible brushwork; erased brushwork; palette knife; erased palette
knife.
Possibly these could be laid out even more formally, like Lisa
Milroy's painting. The similarity to a blackboard is intentional,
to
see the painting as a collection of signs and symbols that can be
erased.
